LGBTQIA+ Group Leader Job Description
In this role, you will manage and co-lead our LGBTQIA+ group in a juvenile incarceration setting.
A successful group leader will radiate confidence, inspire youth, and be able to build mentoring relationships. Group leaders should have strong interpersonal skills and know how to effectively manage their time. This is a very part-time, 3 to 5 hours per week position. At Youth Rise, everyone is paid the same rate which is tied to the average chaplain pay for the Seattle area. That is $33/hour for FY23. We strive for consensus driven decision-making and equity.

Group Leader Responsibilities:
- Managing and coordinating LGBTQIA+ group at Echo Glen
- Providing clear written and verbal instructions to youth and promptly addressing any questions or concerns.
- Planning group activities and delegating tasks.
- Clearly outline goals and ensure youth understand what’s expected of them.
- Ensuring health and safety regulations are always obeyed.
- Analyzing group performance and making recommendations for improvement.
- Providing group sessions as well as one-on-one mentoring meetings that leads youth into leadership.
- Upholding the values and standards of the Youth Rise and setting a good example for colleagues and group members.
- Other duties as required.
Group Leader Requirements:
- 21 years old
- Knowledge of the LGBTQIA+ community, identity development, and intersectionality
- Must be able to clear Washington state’s juvenile rehabilitation administration background check
- A patient spirit.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Evidence of excellent leadership skills.
- Evidence of good relationship development with youth.
- Prior experience leading groups is preferable.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Preference to those who have restorative justice experience.
- Great organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of administrative functions.
- The ability to maintain calm under pressure.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to use google tools such as docs, sheets, email, etc. and other organizational tools.
